Gastone Nencini ( Barberino di Mugello -Firenze) morto il 1° Febbraio 1980 a Firenze. ciclista su strada e pistard italiano. Professionista dal 1953 al 1965, vinse Giro d'Italia e Tour de France.Era soprannominato Il Leone del Mugello per l'indomito coraggio e la determinazione in corsa.Vincitore del Giro d'Italia nel 1957 avrebbe potuto affermarsi già nel 1955 se, vittima di una foratura, non fosse stato attaccato da Fiorenzo Magni e Fausto Coppi, che riuscirono ad arrivare soli a San Pellegrino. Oltre alla classifica generale si aggiudicò otto tappe, la maglia verde e vestì per otto giorni la maglia rosa.Vinse il Tour de France 1960 senza riportare vittorie di tappa ma mettendo in mostra le sue qualità di discesista. Conquistò di fatto la corsa francese quando il suo principale rivale, Roger Rivière, cadde ferendosi gravemente nel tentativo di seguirlo in discesa. Al Tour si aggiudicò inoltre tre tappe, la maglia a pois e vestì per 12 giorni la maglia gialla.Nelle corse di un giorno ottenne alcuni buoni piazzamenti come il secondo posto al Giro dell'Appennino del 1962 e al Campionato di Zurigo nel 1964, il terzo nel Giro del Lazio del 1957 e nella Milano-Torino del 1960 e una vittoria nella Tre Valli Varesine nel 1956.Ha vinto 24 corse su strada.Nencini ha pure iscritto nel suo palmares il Giro di Reggio Calabria nel 1957, il Gran Premio di Nizza nel 1960 e altre gare.
Per alcuni anni è stato Direttore sportivo di squadre Professionistiche, Springoil e Max Mayer, sfiorando la vittoria al giro d'Italia con Michelotto.Vestì sei volte la maglia azzurra della Nazionale italiana. Importante il suo ruolo nella squadra azzurra che portò Ercole Baldini alla maglia iridata nel 1958 a Reims.In suo onore esiste un monumento posto al passo della Futa: lungo il muraglione spartivento è posto un grande ritratto a bassorilievo di bronzo che lo raffigura in corsa con la sottostante dedica che recita: "Gastone Nencini. Il comune di Barberino del Mugello ed i compagni di tante battaglie ricordano il campione mugellano."Nel 2012 gli è stato intitolato un canale televisivo regionale che si chiama, per l'appunto, Gastone Nencini. Il canale è visibile in Toscana sulla numerazione 192 del digitale terrestre e trasmette, ininterrottamente, servizi relativi al ciclismo.
