Michael Jordan (17 febbraio 1963) giocatore
di basket NBA. È uno dei giocatori più prolifici di tutti i tempi. Vinse per
ben 10 volte il titolo di capocannoniere dell'anno,
arrivando a segnare nella stagione 1986/87 fino a 37.1 punti a partita. Con i Chicago Bulls ha vinto 6 volte
le NBA Finals ed è stato per 6
volte premiato come MVP delle NBA Finals. La
franchigia di Chicago fu,
durante l'era jordaniana, una delle squadre più forti e vincenti di sempre,
nella quale, nel corso degli anni, militarono giocatori importanti come Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoc e Steve Kerr. Jordan viene scelto
dai Chicago Bulls come terza scelta assoluta nel primo giro del draft NBA del 1984, dietro Hakeem Olajuwon e Sam Bowie. Al momento del suo
arrivo, la squadra dei Bulls è una delle peggiori della NBA, avendo disputato diverse stagioni letteralmente
disastrose, e fra quelle con meno spettatori, tanto da aver valutato
l'opportunità di spostarsi da Chicago per cercare maggiore
pubblico. Sarà proprio intorno a Michael Jordan che si formerà, a poco a poco,
una nuova squadra, che arriverà poi a essere la dinastia che ha dominato la
lega statunitense negli anni novanta.
Il suo esordio in campionato avviene contro i Washington Bullets (guarda caso proprio la squadra che, con il nome di Washington Wizards, è stata l'ultima squadra di Michael Jordan). In
quella partita mette a segno ben 16 punti e porta Chicago alla prima di tante
vittorie che si susseguiranno negli anni a venire. Il talento e gli sforzi di
Jordan vengono premiati con la convocazione per la partita delle stelle nel
mese di febbraio, l'NBA All-Star Game, e dopo pochi
mesi viene premiato come matricola dell'anno. La seconda
stagione con i Bulls, però, non la inizia nemmeno: il 25 ottobre 1985 si infortuna alla caviglia durante una partita di preseason contro i Golden State Warriors. Per Jordan sono cinque mesi di stop. post-season,
però, ottiene un risultato incredibile, un record tuttora imbattuto che da solo
vale la stagione: segna 63 punti contro i Boston Celtics di Larry Bird, che esclamerà a
fine partita: "Penso sia Dio travestito
da Michael Jordan"; resterà la miglior prestazione di sempre quanto
a punti segnati in una gara di play-off. L'estate del 1986 è l'inizio del nuovo corso dei Chicago Bulls, e la nuova
squadra inizia a prendere forma attorno a Jordan, sempre più leader. Il terzo
campionato NBA è quello della conferma per Jordan, che per la prima
volta vince la classifica marcatori, con 37,1 punti di media a partita. Il
ruolino di marcia di Jordan è assolutamente incredibile: nelle 82 partite della
stagione regolare, 77 volte Jordan è il miglior realizzatore della sua squadra,
per due volte segna 61 punti, per otto volte supera i 50, per addirittura
trentasette volte ne mette 40 o più. Supera la soglia dei tremila punti in una
sola stagione (3041), segnando il 35% dei punti totali della squadra. La vera
consacrazione di Michael come dominatore assoluto del basket mondiale, arriva
all'inizio degli anni novanta,
quando i Bulls raggiungono un livello di gioco che coniuga un mix esplosivo di
talento, creatività e spettacolo uniti al sacrificio e alla dedizione verso la
fase difensiva del gioco, illuminati da Jordan che gioca una pallacanestro a
livelli ineguagliabili, rasente il limite della perfezione mai vista prima e
mai più rivista da nessun giocatore dopo di lui. In tre anni, nel 1991 contro i Los Angeles Lakers di Magic Johnson e James Worthy, nel 1992 contro i Portland Trail Blazers di Clyde Drexler e nel 1993 contro i Phoenix Suns di Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson e Dan Majerle, i Chicago Bulls vincono tre
titoli NBA in fila, realizzando il cosiddetto three-peat.
Nell'estate 1992, Jordan, dopo aver vinto il suo secondo titolo,
partecipa ai Giochi olimpici estivi di Barcellona 1992, dove si tiene la prima apparizione di giocatori
professionisti della NBA ai Giochi olimpici. Jordan viene
incaricato del ruolo di capitano della squadra insieme a Magic Johnson e Larry
Bird. Il 6 ottobre 1993, in una conferenza stampa sovraffollata di
giornalisti, Michael comunica alla Lega e al mondo la sofferta decisione di
lasciare la pallacanestro.
Le sue parole sono: "Ho perso
ogni motivazione. Nel gioco del basket non ho più nulla da dimostrare: è il

vincere. Tornare? Forse, ma ora penso alla famiglia." . È il 18 marzo 1995 quando, alle 11:40, viene diramato un breve
comunicato: "Michael Jordan ha
informato i Bulls di aver interrotto il suo
volontario ritiro di 17 mesi. Esordirà domenica a Indianapolis contro gli Indiana Pacers.":
Jordan è di nuovo protagonista assoluto e i Chicago Bulls ottengono
un'altra stagione superlativa. La squadra fa segnare un record assoluto nella NBA: sono la prima formazione nella storia della NBA a superare la soglia delle 70 vittorie nella regular season, vincendo ben 72
partite su 82, un risultato senza precedenti. Jordan vinse il suo ottavo titolo
di marcatore e Rodman il suo quinto consecutivo da rimbalzista, mentre Kerr guidò la Lega nel tiro da
tre punti. Jordan ottenne la cosiddetta Triple
Crown, la prestigiosa e quasi impossibile impresa dei tre premi come MVP. Air guida la squadra
durante la stagione 1997-98 e arriva così il sesto titolo per Jordan suggellato
da una palla rubata dalle mani di Karl Malone e dallo splendido tiro proprio di
MJ a 6,6 secondi dalla fine della sesta gara delle finali, giocata a Salt Lake City, entrato di
diritto nella storia della pallacanestro: è il secondo three-peat
per Michael e i Chicago Bulls. È il suo saluto di congedo dalla NBA, anche se nessuno ancora lo sa. Poco tempo dopo la
finale annuncia il suo secondo, e a detta di tutti definitivo, ritiro. Nel 2001 i tifosi di tutto il mondo vengono colti di sorpresa
quando si comincia a diffondere l'ipotesi di un secondo ritorno di Air. Jordan decide così di fare un
passo in più, e da proprietario dei Washington Wizards torna ad essere giocatore. Durante le due stagioni
nella nuova squadra, Jordan percepisce un compenso simbolico di un milione di
dollari, devoluto interamente in beneficenza alle famiglie delle
vittime degli attentati terroristici dell'11 settembre 2001. Nonostante
l'età, 38 anni, ed un infortunio
che lo tiene fuori per parte della stagione 2001-02, partecipa naturalmente al suo 14º All-Star Game, a Filadelfia, dove riesce come sempre a creare spettacolo, con la
sua classe e il suo talento. La sua prima stagione come Wizards finisce
comunque con una media di 22,9 punti a partita. Al termine della stagione 2002-03, si ritira per la terza ed ultima volta. Jordan
conclude la sua carriera NBA con una media punti per partita di 30,12 nella
stagione regolare, la più alta in tutta la storia dell'NBA, superiore di
pochi centesimi alla media punti del grande Wilt Chamberlain (30,06); è terzo come numero di
