Bill Rodgers (Hartford, 23 dicembre 1947) Atleta statunitense che vinse in carriera 22 maratone, fra cui 4 volte New York (1976-9) e 4 Boston (1975, 1978-80).A Boston per due volte ha battuto il record americano con 2:09:55 nel 1975 e 2:09:27 nel 1979.Nel 1975 vinse la medaglia di bronzo al campionato mondiale di Cross Country, eguagliando il risultato ottenuto da Tracy Smith nel 1966, come miglior risultato ottenuto da un atleta USA nel cross.Ha partecipato ai Giochi di Montreal 1976, giungendo però solo 40°; quattro anni più tardi invece venne messo fuori gioco dal boicottaggio americano.Nel 1977 vinse anche alla maratona di Fukuoka. L'anno più importante per le corse su strada per Rodgers fu il 1978, in cui vinse 27 corse su 30 disputate, compresi i 10.000 metri nazionali, dove stabilì il nuovo primato mondiale dei 10 km su strada con 28:36.3, la Falmouth Road Race e, come già detto, le maratone di Boston e New York.Rodgers fu anche il detentore del record mondiale sui 25 km, avendo superato quello di Pekka Paivarinta in 1:14.11.8 su una pista a Saratoga, California nel 1979.

In Boston twice broke the American record in 1975 with 2:09:55 and 2:09:27 in 1975 1979.Nel won the bronze medal at the world Cross Country championship, equaling the result obtained by Tracy Smith in 1966, his best result achieved by an athlete in the U.S. cross.Ha participated in the 1976 Montreal Games, reaching only 40 °, however, four years later but was sidelined by the boycott americano.Nel also won the 1977 Fukuoka marathon. The most important year for the road races for Rodgers was 1978, when he won 27 races out of 30 played, including the 10,000-meter national, where he established a new world record of 28:36.3 with a 10 km road, the Falmouth Road Race and, as already said, the marathons in Boston and New York.Rodgers was also the world record holder in the 25 km, having exceeded that of Pekka Paivarinta in 1:14.11.8 on a track in Saratoga, California in 1979. Track & Field News ranked Rodgers leading the marathon world ranking in 1975, 1977 and 1979.
